Empowering Somali Engineers
Project Introduction
Empowering Somali Engineers is a full-scale community platform built to connect engineers across Somalia and the global diaspora around shared infrastructure challenges—water, roads, energy, ICT, and beyond.
The site combines a bold hero-driven landing experience with dedicated hubs for membership, publications, galleries, and donations—giving a national engineering association a modern digital presence that drives registration, collaboration, and chapter-level engagement.

Key Learnings
Community-First Information Architecture
Structured the entire site around how engineering chapters actually discover content—membership onboarding, publication archives, event galleries, and donation flows each received dedicated top-level navigation rather than being buried in generic pages. Dropdown menus for About Us and Publication Hub were mapped to real organizational hierarchies so returning members could reach resources in two clicks or fewer. Content sections were prioritized by user intent: new visitors see the mission and register CTA first, while existing members can jump directly to publications and chapter updates. This architecture reduced bounce rates on key conversion paths and made the platform feel purpose-built for a professional engineering body.
Hero-Driven Conversion Design
Designed a full-width hero carousel with a dark overlay, bold headline typography, and a highlighted keyword treatment to immediately communicate the platform's mission to first-time visitors. The primary "Register Now" call-to-action was placed above the fold with high-contrast blue styling that matched the brand identity throughout the header and footer. Carousel indicators and secondary slides allow the association to rotate messaging around different engineering disciplines and chapter highlights without redeploying the site. The hero pattern established visual trust and urgency before users scroll into deeper content about publications and membership benefits.
Scalable Multi-Section Platform
Built modular page templates for membership tiers, publication listings, photo galleries, and donation campaigns so content teams can expand each section independently as the organization grows. Shared header and footer components enforce consistent branding and navigation across every page while allowing section-specific layouts for long-form case studies and media-rich gallery grids. Responsive breakpoints were tested across mobile and desktop to ensure diaspora members on phones and chapter admins on desktops receive an equally polished experience. The modular structure makes it straightforward to add new hubs—such as job boards or event calendars—without restructuring the core site.
